Introduction

Butterflies are insects like all insects it has 3 body parts head thorax and abdomen.

They come out in spring and summer.They are loving creatures not dangerous only preety. They have cousins Moths.

They are not as beautiful Because their wings dont get beautiful colores from the sun they come out at night.

Its hard to notice the diffrence of these cousins continue reading to find out more about these interesting insects.






Life cycle

Have you ever wondered where butterflies come from?

Butterflies don’t start out with beautiful wings.

They start as eggs .When the egg hatches it is a caterpillar.

The caterpillar will start to eat and eat until it gets fat.

It will know because its going to be to big for its skin .

It skin splits open.

It is a pupa.

It will climb a piece of bark to protect it’s a chrysalis.

In spring it will thankfully hatch into a butterfly!



Habitat

Do you know where to find a butterfly?

Well I know! Butterflies mostly live in high mountains rain forests and sometimes dry desserts they can live anywhere warm or hot but not cold.

They can be in your own backyard remember not in fall or winter.

If you love these wonderful insects don’t let them near these pets.

Diet

Have you ever wondered what to feed butterflies?

Butterflies love to eat the nectar, flower, sugar, tree sap and fruit. They eat with proboscis (long tongue). Caterpillars eat mostly leaves and plants.





Physical Description

Do you know the differences between moths and butterflies? Moths fly at night, have dull colored wings and hairy bodies. Butterflies fly in the daytime, have colorful wings and hairless bodies. Butterflies form chrysalises and moths spin cocoons.




Harmful or Helpful

Some are gross and some are scary. Butterflies and caterpillars are helpful pollinators of flowers. But some moths can be destructive… such as the clothes moth. They like to feed on your sweaters! Caterpillars have body guards… their shape can sometimes protect them. Sometimes they even have poisonous bodies.

Can you have a butterfly as a pet? Butterflies go out at daytime because they have two basic jobs: to get food and to reproduce.
